Answer what questions you can To identify a creature. Avoid guessing as a wrong answer will diminish chances of a correct identification; you can make your final choice on viewing the pictures and descriptions.

When you click identify you will be presented with a set of thumbnails ordered so that species that best match your answers are near the beginning. A marker box marks the end of the exact matches, if any. Click a thumbnail for a bigger picture and brief description.

In some cases there may be more than one correct answer for the species. For example, the Common Centipede has 7 pairs of legs, is 5mm long and pale yellow on hatching while the adult has 30 pairs of legs, is brown and is up to 3cm long. The pictures only show the adult.

If a creature has more than one colour in similar proportions, select any one of them. The Hoverfly will be among the identified creatures if you click either black or yellow.

Leave all questions as "Don't know" to view all species in alphabetical order.
