I forgot to mention, that's a great pic of the members of our Senate.

Can't blame you for not liking the anti-British slant of the attacks on BP. BP is run by a bunch of greedy fucks, but so are many corporations, it's not a national sort of issue, but a human one.
That horrible Bhopal disaster was the result of inept management by natives of India and their American counterparts, as I understand it. Like BP, greed overruled good judgement.
When greed causes a pillow stuffing factory to understuff the pillows, or a packing plant to half-fill product boxes, no one dies. The problem is a lack of oversight or an excess of trust, take your pick. When you have a company that is famous for "egregrious violations", like BP, it only makes sense to shut them down instead of allowing them to drill in dangerous areas, with or without safety backup plans, and that goes for any company from anywhere.
Look at the baby food bottlers in China who adulterated the stuff with something that falsely appeared to increase the protein content, with the result that a reported 5000 or more babies died of kidney failure. When any company produces any product that we eat or that can blow to hell, etcetera, that company generally undergoes regular inspections. Why the Hell aren't the oil drillers out in our oceans, where horrible disasters can beset us, subject to inspections?
In China I can see it because the government really doesn't give a shit about 5000 babies or 50,000 babies, they just put you up against a wall and shoot you if you screw up, and charge you for the bullet. But in countries where life is supposedly valued more than a pair of bricks or a used hoe, we really need to be a lot less trusting that big greedy corporations are only just trying to do the right thing. My ass.
